Time to Change the Negative Tapes!

An encouraging quote beautifully hand written in calligraphy script, and then collaged onto watercolor painted papers, some with natural elements such as flower petals and leaves embedded within. These are gorgeous pieces which will make stunning wall art or heartfelt notecards! #watercolors, #collage, #multimedia, #quotes, #inspirations, #handmadepapers

Everyone has inside himself a piece of good news! The good news is that you really don’t know how great you can be, how much you can love, what you can accomplish, and what your potential is. – Anne Frank

I’ve decided to start a new series of positive and encouraging posts, offering a quote and tieing it into something positive I’m learning or doing!

Today’s quote ties in nicely with a workshop I have been following and doing called the #InfinitePossibilitiesProject through http://www.TUT.com, which I wrote about here.

Today’s exercise:

Play Detective – Hear Your Words, Watch Your Actions, and Flip What Needs Flipping!

Now it’s time to play defense. So far we’ve talked about ways you can proactively program transformation, but in this subtle way, you can also quickly stem the tide of any self-made negativity that may cross your wires or contradict the initiatives we’re taking to spark change.

Simply pay attention to what you hear yourself saying (in thought or word) and observe all you’re doing. We want to get a handle on some of your subliminal inner messaging. When you don’t like what you’re signaling or a “story” you may be telling, then deliberately, patiently, and lovingly craft a counter measure (a new phrase or story) to immediately put to use. Continue until the day arrives when you no longer find yourself being your worst critic, but rather, your best friend. Easy!

How often do we berate ourselves and put ourselves down? How many negative tapes do we allow to play in our heads? Isn’t is exhausting to deal with the world when we filter everything through these negative tapes?

Yes, I agree! It’s time to change!

I really like how Mike Dooley has explained how we can “Flip what needs flipping!” and how he explained it in a few sentences! Very inspiring isn’t it?

Years ago when I was struggling to heal emotionally, and if I’d see someone who was happy and joyful, the tapes in my head would snidely say “Oh come off it! No one is that happy! That’s put on as a show for others to see!”

A few years later, now that I’ve worked to walk my healing curve, when I see someone happy, I smile! I’m happy for them! I look to see what made them happy, and If I can discern it… cute kid, happy couple etc., I smile… I can almost feel their joy too!

Getting out of negative thinking is a process and does take work, but speaking from experience, is so worth it!

Now, taking it to the next level… I do admit that I’ve come to recognize my long held internal beliefs: first I thought I didn’t deserve a good future, that I somehow had to suffer because there was something wrong with me. That changed and then I was telling myself that a life filled with abundance was for other people, that I perhaps agreed to a life contract of being poor, that abundance was for other people.

I’ve been working on myself the past few months to tell myself that abundance is good, there is more than enough in this Universe for everyone, and that it’s very okay and very good to take my life to the next level!

Now when I work on the steps Mike speaks of, they feel good and natural to me!

Peace to you all!

PS: I’ve been unemployed for the past year… part of the time, over 6 months, I’ve stood in the gap doing all the childcare and household duties while my daughter has been working 1 and 1/2 hours away, for 8-10 hour shifts. So rather than saying to myself that I’m “unemployed”, which has very negative feelings, I’ve been phrasing it that I’ve been on a 1 year Sabbatical. Huge difference in the feelings! I took the advice of one business leader, and wrote an “end of the year report” where I showcased all the things I had accomplished during that time. I posted it on a tab on my website/Blog and wrote an article about it… why? Well it’s not just a feel good exercise! I’m going to be shifting gears soon into job search mode (my baby steps towards fulfilling my dreams!) and this online presence will help a future employer see how constructively I’ve used my time… Yes, I also must admit, it feels really good to see all the things I’ve been working on! Yay me!

Did you like this quote? What was your personal ‘Aha’? Would you like me to put this quote to a photo… or different piece of art… what would speak to you? Has this quote seen you through a particular time in your life? Are you excited about turning things around?!

So as a little final word: why not try to “Flip what needs flipping!” and see how you can become your own best friend!
