Endorsements are for athletes and famous people right?
Wrong! …wait! What?
Retweeting, sharing, liking, reblogging etc. are how we connect with our audience and our readers.
WHAT we choose to share reflects on who we are and the message we wish to share!
If we’re sharing negative, inflammatory or salacious items only to gain readership, we can be spreading and thus promoting the very things we might be personally against! These become the things we endorse!
The things we choose to share with other people don’t exist in a bubble of headlines only! There are very real actions and people’s lives connected to all of these, and if we appear to support or spread negative messages, people can and will believe that’s what we stand for!
This is all part of our public image, our personal branding.
In extreme situations where people ARE trying to spread messages of hate and violence, using social media has become the go-to method.
Just check out this example: http://fusion.net/story/287685/do-retweets-equal-endorsements/
So, if you don’t wish to appear to be endorsing people or views you don’t want to be seen supporting, simply adding your own disclaimer or opinion to a share or a Tweet can help to clarify your position!
Endorsements, we all do it!
What side of the fence are you on?
